Public display of affection is not appreciated and neither is public nudity unless perhaps one is at a beach.
One is expected to cover the head before entering a religious place such as a temple or mosque.
In India both summer and winter weather conditions can reach extremes so it is better that you pack according to the season. If you are traveling in summers (April to September), pack light cotton clothes. If you are traveling in winters (October to March), pack some warm clothes, as it can get mercilessly chilly in the northern parts of India.
Tourist seasons in India:
Peak tourist season in India is from October to March. Hotel rates & Air Travel are at peak. Bookings should be made atleast 3-6 months in advance. Supplements apply during Christmas & New Year.
June-August is off season: Accommodations and air travel are cheaper than winters. National wildlife parks are closed during this time.
April to May is off season. Accommodation and air travel are cheapest during this period. Despite hot weather during these months, a lot of tourists visit India during this period as the cost for travel and stay are minimum.
The standard check-in & check-out time for hotels in India is 1200 noon and in some cases it is 1400 hrs.
Hotels in India believe is self-rating and this is why not all claims made on their websites are true. Hence we suggest that you go with our choice of hotels as by booking them directly you might be overcharged even after commitment.
Tipping is appreciated in India. However the amount of the tip is totally at the discretion of the tourist.
Although Goa has a fair amount of mosquitoes during certain periods of the year, and also Malaria, we generally do not have a mosquito problem since we are surrounded by salt water which mosquitoes do not like. However each bedroom and tent has an electric mosquito repellant which has proved to be very effective. If you need to protect yourself outdoors we suggest you bring repellant cream or spray.
