Mountains & Hill Stations
Cool, ideal getaways for both the adventurer and the nature enthusiast – that sums up the mountains and hill stations of Kerala. Munnar, Maattupetty, Nelliyampathy, Idukki, Ponmudi, Vagamon and Wayanad are only a few such hill stations offering comfortable, even luxury, holiday facilities. Take in the breathtaking scenery of mist-drenched, remote mountain peaks, gushing waterfalls, well-manicured, English era tea-estates, picture-postcard villages and towns. Paraglide off a hilltop at Vagamon or feel the adrenalin rush of rappelling and rock climbing at Munnar (‘Three Rivers’). Visit Anamudi (Elephant’s Forehead), near Munnar, which, at over 2500 meters, is the highest peak in South India. Munnar also plays host to the blossoming of the Neelakurinjiplant when the hills are covered with its blue blooms once every twelve years (the next flowering is in 2018). Or visit Silent Valley, Kerala’s largest national park and home to the endangered lion tailed macaque and other rare and exotic species of animal and plant life. Kerala’s mountains make up her less known but equally enchanting face.
